In Maths, we will be focussing on mental arithmetic and problem solving skills, using our learning in different contexts.
Autumn Term 2019
Welcome to Year 2! We have an exciting year planned, starting off with out topic all about London. For the first half term, we will be looking at London in the past, focusing on the Great Fire of London. We will be learning all about how the fire started and finding out about Samuel Pepys and his diary. We will be linking this to our English units by writing diary entries. We will also be writing a narrative, using stories about fires and rescues. In Science, we will be finding out about our bodies and senses, before focusing on sound and hearing.
For the second part of our term, we will be learning about London in the present day, linking to our English units through the Katie in London books. We will be finding out the main differences between Northampton and London and looking at various geographical features. For our Science unit, we will be learning about seasonal changes before moving onto materials.
In Maths for the term, we will be working on place value and calculations, particularly in questions written in different ways. We will also be beginning to develop arithmetic and problem solving skills, ready for the end of Key Stage tests at the end of the year.
